Life Insurance and PP
« on: May 29, 2011, 07:40:59 PM »
Hi

I've just come across this site, having suffered from puerpral psychosis in 2009 following the birth of our little boy.  I wondered if anyone had attempted to get life insurance since recovering from the illness, and whether you had had any difficulties.  The reason that I'm asking is because following my recent application for life insurance, I was initially refused, and then when I complained, I was offered life insurance at 4x the original monthly payment quoted.

I would be interested to hear anyone else's story, or to hear of pp-friendly insurance companies out there.

Thanks

Claire

Hiya, I've not been on this site for months hence never seen your posting in May. Wee shame that nobody replied to you. I had PP in 2007 after the birth of my son.  I had problems getting life insurance when applied 2 yrs ago which frustrated me greatly so I contacted MENSA who agreed it was discrimination however I didnt take it any further in the end as thot pointless at the time.  I was declined by one company but told I could try again in 18 months... Bizarre!! My husband drafted a letter for me to send which was very well worded and asked them to make a clause that if my death was related to my previous PP or any pregnancy related condition that it would be void but they said no!! I am a staff nurse and get insurance through my work so we decided that I would just leave it and put it down to a frustratingly stressful experience.  I hope you got things sorted in the end and got your life insurance.
Take care, Jillybob ;0)

Hi Claire

I had pp in June 2008 and not been on any meds since Sept 2009.
I have been declined life insurance this year and got told to reapply next year, I also applied with another company and like you got told it would be 4x the premium.
I asked to look at the medical letter they ask for and there is nothing on there for a reason why I shouldn't be insured.
Think it's just a case of trying each year and see what happens.
