Just want to say hi.
« on: June 11, 2009, 09:29:30 PM »
Hi all, a little nervous about posting and chatting here. Feeling really lonely and sad. I am a married mum with 6 young children, the eldest is 14. I am being treated for a prolonged postnatal illness dating back to when my 14yr old was born, up to my recent baby who is now aged 1. My past was volatile and violent, but I dont want to go into detail, however doctor thinks it has added to my condition. I am now awaiting a psychiatry referal to see wether or not the postnatal illness has got serious. I am really frightened, and afraid of being seen as an unfit mother, I hope there is somebody else out there who is going through this with me. Please let me know, so I can see I am not alone.

Hi,

I don't think anyone's likely to think you're an unfit mother -- in my experience (as a dad), the services did everything they could to keep everyone together.

If you're awaiting a referral, I wouldn't try and be too worried.  If they were worried, it would be a pretty instant referral (i.e. within 24hrs), so, from what you say, I reckon it's precautionary.

Rest assured there are plenty of people going through it.  You are not alone.  Sorry no-one else has replied yet, but there is support available, particularly in the puerperal psychosis forum where we have a couple of fairly regular contributors.  You might want to try posting there?

I hope all goes well for you and wish you the best,

D.
